New York City Networking Trip
January 2009

The purpose of the New York City networking trip is to provide CMC students with an opportunity to establish relationships with CMC alumni working in NYC, while gaining exposure to various job opportunities in the financial markets. The goal is for these relationships to evolve into summer internship and full-time job opportunities for CMC students in NYC.

Activities:
In 2009, the students will arrive in NYC on Monday, January 12th. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the students will visit a total of six companies. During the visits to these firms, the host company will be asked to provide the following:

  • An informational presentation regarding the organization (preferably involving a CMC alumnus)
  • Time for questions & answers in which CMC students will establish a dialog with the presenter
  • A panel of young employees (preferably CMC alumnus) to discuss their roles in the organization and to answer questions
  • A tour of the company's facilities (i.e. trading floor)
  • A presentation from a recruiter within the firm that will enable CMC students to gain a better understanding of career opportunities
  • Either breakfast, lunch, or dinner

In addition to the company visits, the trip will include a cocktail reception in conjunction with the New York Chapter of the CMC Alumni Association.

The trip will conclude with a farewell dinner hosted by the chaperones on Thursday night. On Friday, the students will return to Los Angeles unless they choose to stay in NYC to spend time sightseeing. The students who remain in New York will be responsible for covering any expenses they incur after Friday morning.

Participants:
Participants will consist of 15 CMC students who are involved with the Financial Economics Institute and the Robert Day Scholars Program. Students will be selected through an application process and participant decisions will be made by the Directors of the Financial Economics Institute. Brian Dennis will chaperone the trip to NYC.

Costs:
Students are responsible for airfare costs. The Financial Economics Institute and Robert Day Scholars Program will cover all lodging, transportation, and food costs in NYC.
